In January 2017, Thoughtcatalog.com published my piece on the history of legal Asian exclusion, which started in the late 19th century and persisted through the ‘50s/’60s, an era during which Asians were targeted using the phrase “aliens ineligible to citizenship” and in other ways, restricting their ability to immigrate, own land, get certain jobs, marry certain people, and a host of other liberties that were granted to “free white persons” from the very beginning of our nation. Anti-racist educator, Dr. Robin DiAngelo, and professor of immigration and citizenship law at UCLA, Hiroshi Motomura, lend their expert opinions.
